Why is Green IT an important initiative?

Economic and environmental conservation are the two main reasons every business should strive to implement Green IT initiatives. The results are tangible—those results are found on the bottom-line. The value is inherently obvious, especially in today’s economy.

Why has Green IT not been adopted within small-to-medium sized businesses?

Green IT was predominantly geared towards larger sized organizations that utilize data centers or other sizeable IT infrastructures. With the changing waves of technology there are now hundreds of vendors providing Green IT related products and services.

It is easy to be swamped in this wave. The challenge for business owners is to know what products and services will achieve tangible results for their organization so their business rides the Green IT wave.

Why should I use a Green IT Certified Service Provider?

The wave of Green IT is upon us. A Certified Solutions Provider offers the small-to-medium sized business a level of expertise and neutrality for the following:

  • Understands the macro concept of Green IT
  • Understands and has the ability to learn and understand your business model
  • Can adapt and implement vendor neutral products and services to achieve sustainable solutions long term that optimize your business success
  • Can provide tangible results economic and energy conservation

With the proper approach, guidance and expertise of a Certified Service Provider, all businesses can implement Green IT and reap immediate benefits.

In its most simplistic form Green IT is the ability to leverage technology to produce "green" results. The main impact for IT is in reduced energy use and carbon foot prints by reducing travel (both locally and national / globally).

The following are some areas that Green IT is starting to make an impact:

  1. Remote telecommuters
  2. Low energy data centers
  3. Web ex or remote meeting / video conferencing
  4. Low energy consuming computers and peripherals
  5. Server Virtualization
  6. Converged Communications - enabling mobility
  7. Document management and data storage
  8. Remote backup storage (replacing tapes)
  9. Low consuming toner printer and copiers
  10. Business management technology

Green IT initiatives have been mainly targeted towards the Enterprise market place (organizations with 500 or more users). Anexio is currently leveraging Green IT for the SMB market. Visit http://anexio.com/green-it.html for more information on Anexio and GreenIT
