Green IT: Anexio's Role

Anexio has taken several measures to bring the Green IT initiative to both our internal operations and those of our clients.  Here is a brief listing of some key points: Server / Desktop Virtualization Servers:  Anexio is leveraging VM Ware, Virtual box and Microsoft's Hyper-V Virtual Servers.  Instead of selling replacement servers Anexio, where applicable, is recommending server consolidation and virtualization.  Our internal servers and data centers are using server virtualization to allow us to consolidate our servers onto a single hardware platform Workstations:  Where applicable Anexio is recommending both new and existing customers focus on thin clients or virtual desktops.  If thin clients are not an option we then will recommend that they use workstations and monitors that are Energy Smart and have an EPEAT rating of at least Silver. Anexio roll in the reduction of onsite visits 100% of our clients receive the majority of their support services remotely.  Our standard first line of remediation is remote.  We are averaging 98.5% total remote remediation on all issues across all of our clients.  Our engineers also have incentives in place to focus on remote remediation. Anexio's use of alternative energy sources for our internal IT operations and how we encourage our clients to implement such technologies Unfortunately for us our facility does not allow us to fully leverage alternatives forms of energy for our internal operations.  However, we have implemented several initiatives that allow us to save energy.  This includes replacing our standard light bulbs with CFLs and have replaced our ballasts with high efficiency ballasts for the remainder of our lighting. We also encourage our clients to look for alternatives forms of energy.  If available we recommend solar panels as a form of energy procurement.  However, this technology is still fairly new and we have yet to have a client use this technology.  We do recommend that during their building or remodeling processes that they do leverage the LEEDs certification process as a guide for efficiency. Anexio's services we provide that allow you to save power: As mentioned above above we focus our efforts on equipment that is energy smart and has an EPEAT rating of at least silver.  Also, we are leveraging Intel's VPro and other tools (i.e. ScriptLogic, Hyper-V, etc.) to give us the ability to remotely shut down workstations if they are left on by the client from our NOC. We also focuses on LEEDs standard and practices for clients when they move into new locations.  This includes the Energy & Atmosphere section of the LEEDs Certification process. Anexio and Cloud Computing The term 'Cloud Computing' in its most simplistic form means any hosted application or service that is delivered through the internet.  Currently we offering hosted e-mail and collaboration tools from our hosted data center. We also have started implementing hosted Exchange and SharePoint services.  We also are working with all of our software vendors to see what they are offering in the SaaS (software as a service) arena.  As this technology and processes become more main stream we will be rolling out these services to our existing and new client base.
